500 ## _$aThe study analyzes the formation and development of preschool education and upbringing in the Komi from the beginning of the XX century until 1945. The research is based on archival documents being put into wide circulation for the first time. The stage of the emergence of the first organizations for young children, created before 1917 for the summer period in individual villages, but which did not receive sustainable support, is considered. The first steps towards the formation of a preschool education system in the Autonomous Region of Komi (Zyryan) in 1921–1931 and the noticeable improvement of this system in 1932 – early 1941 are characterized. A separate chapter is devoted to the study of the transformation of preschool education during the Great Patriotic War. Changes in funding and material base, provision of personnel and food products for preschool institutions and the peculiarities of these processes during the war years are monitored.
